Summit for Someone

Known mostly as Editor-in-Chief for Backpacker magazine, Jon works hard and plays even harder. He recently led Backpacker to
its first-ever National Magazine Award and the Outdoor Industry
Association's highest honor, the Ambassador Award. Last year, he
captained a media team at Primal Quest, the first to finish an
expedition-length adventure race. He's also trained with Al Gore as an
official presenter of the Inconvenient Truth, and served for three years as president of the board of Big City Mountaineers.

Now
living in Boulder, Jon will be training for his 2008 Summit For Someone
climb with lunch runs in the Flatirons and weekends in the Rockies.
Join Jon as he summits Long’s Peak, Colorado’s classic 14er located in
Rocky Mountain National Park in May.

Summit for Someone climbs benefit Big City Mountaineers which takes inner city kids out hiking and backpacking.

$4100.00? I realize this is suppose to be for a good cause but are you saying we need $4100.00 to climb for this cause.

I'd rather take a needy kid out climbing myself...

And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash a good cause but $4100.00. Most of the climbers I hang out with have duct tape holding their approach shoes together and certainly don't have 4100.00 layin around.

I am a big brother in the big brother big sister program so I feel like I do my part for my community and honestly you get more from it than the kids in my opinion. If you want to take kids climbing it is fine, they will find kids & parents that are cool with that.

So if I have like a hundred bucks for this cause, I could hike up to the boulderfield, then turn around and head back down? A good cause, but imagine it was meant to attract the big spenders for large donations later.
