Advice needed!

Hey Yourclimbing family!
Ive got a competition coming up the 22 of September.
i REALLYYYY want to put my grade of climbing up a level.
and tone out my body, and just for the next month.
Can everyone one out there give me some gooddddd training methods/advice.
I know some of the best advice is to climb as much as i can.
But the fact is, i don't drive yet, and don't have my car yet,
And cant always get to the gym when id like to go.
So, around the house activities i can do.
Or some training activities i can do while I'm at the gym.

Finally recognized for the Champ that I am

Finally recognized for the Champ that I am

BOULDER, Colorado (AP) -- On the same day that Neal Young received his USA Climbing Regional Championships First Place plaque in the mail, the reigning CO/NM Region Adult Intermediate champion announced his retirement from professional climbing.

Post-comp round up - a fun(ny) day indeed

Neal: "So...isn't this supposed to be top-roped?"

Belayer: "Nope."

Neal: "Um. Okay."

And thus began my first climbing competition route. A route I was expecting to be an easy 5.9 or 5.10 toprope, but was actually a 5.11 lead route. And hey - I actually on-sighted it! But since it took everything out of me...it thus became the last route I would complete that day. I don't think I got above the second or third clip on the ensuing, increasing-in-difficulty three routes.

However, despite my singular send, I ended up winning my division! What division is that? The division no one else signed up for! Woo hoo! That accomplishment ranks right up there with the national ranking I received in downhill ski racing...as a four year old.

Yourclimbings' Neal on the wall

Yourclimbings' Neal on the wall

It took awhile, but "Long, Tall Drink of Water" Neal finally found a hold that let him clip the 1st draw. It was the next-to-last hold on the route. I think he got disqualified for skipping all the rest.
Cheers!

Thoughts on my first comp

waiting for the comp to begin

Well I attended my first climbing competition this past weekend and it really opened my eyes about where this sport is going. Kids who maybe reached my waist, were climbing strong. They showed motivation, desire, strength and mental toughness, that is unusual in children in this age. If they carry this with them their whole life, they will be awesome adults. As the comp moved through the age divisions, I didn't see a slackening of these qualities, and where you would have thought competitors would have wanted to win, they showed amazing sportsmanship, by cheering on their competition. On the mens final route, I think everyone, competitors, judges, and fans alike, wanted to see someone, anyone top out, but alas, not this time.
